okra, puppy
HUGE OKRA! from the Lawrence, Mass farmers market. so pretty. by far the largest okra I’ve ever seen. so I roasted it in the oven with some olive oil, red pepper flakes, and salt, the way I’ve done a hundred times with okra.

unfortunately it came out super tough and I was only able to eat the seeds inside, which were so big they were like corn kernels. oh well.
in other news.
my roommate got a puppy.
Sweet Summer Escapist Sorbet
Let’s pretend it’s summer! Here in Boston it may be like a snow globe, but not in my brain. It is good n sunny up there.

1 lb hulled fresh strawberries
1 lb watermelon
zest of 1 lemon (or lime)
1 Tb lemon (or lime) juice
~1 Tb agave nectar
- add everything but the agave into a blender and blend till smoothish and uniform. add agave to taste.
- throw it in an ice cream maker and follow the machine’s instructions. if you don’t have one, maybe you could just throw it in the freezer or something… dunno.
Maybe afterward you would like to try a little somethin like this??
pance party

A mix for my friend pence, whose name is curiously almost a blend of “punk” and “dance”. Well sort of. So, I will call the mix “pance party”. We recently went on a long road trip with his mp3 player, which was about 99% male fronted. Poor thing. So: I have compiled a mix of fun female-fronted music (with the exception of one super-queer boy group). Mostly punk and electro-pop, featuring:
Mika Miko
Le Tigre
Be Your Own Pet
La Roux
Bis
and more!

Pleasure
I have found that there is something wrong with our lives. So much time is spent on the most complex thoughts. We often force ourselves to endure incredibly boring and miserable things for the sake of our supposed betterment. We tend to reward complexity, and criticize fun as immature, unimportant, even ignorant. Rarely do we notice the grandeur of the simple. We’ve forgotten about pleasure! It seems the pursuit of the complex and the neglect of the pleasurable are intricately tied. To further complicate matters, we get tied up in a myriad of values that we tell ourselves are important. But what about pleasure? What is more important than happiness? Why don’t we make euphoria the goal of life? I’d like to remind us all that there is another world out there to escape to, away from the cities and the nine-to-five and the American Dream.
